The Book Exchange of Marin is a fun and meaningful community-building organization run entirely by volunteers who believe in the power of literacy and work to get free books to kids from under-resourced communities.
We Need Your Help
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
- Volunteer needed for fund development campaign. The Book Exchange has an excellent opportunity to raise much-needed funding through local and regional foundations that focus on raising childhood literacy and serving at-risk youth. We have the necessary contacts and information for funding applications. This volunteer would work closely with our president to undertake this foundation fund development campaign.
- Learning Lab Instructor – Share a program in our Learning Lab on Wednesday mornings (retired teachers are perfect for this!)
- Spanish-Speaking Volunteers – Assist students during field trips on Wednesday mornings
Volunteer Roles
Our volunteers collectively contribute an average of 100 hours per week to support literacy in our community. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities, including remote options. Examples include:
Field Trips – Coordinate logistics, prepare books, assist students during weekly field trips
Book Donations – Organize book drives, coordinate donations, sort, and shelve books
Volunteer Coordination – Recruit and train new volunteers
Communications – Create signage, informational materials, website content, social media posts
Data Management – Maintain email lists and customer databases
Fundraising – Research grants and donors, write applications, make presentations, and send thank-you notes
Facility Maintenance – Help keep our space clean and welcoming for kids
