Have a Book Drive

The Book Exchange relies on gently used and new book donations from the Marin community. Youth-led book drives tend to be very successful, as they often bring in the same books that students visiting The Book Exchange want to read! Students can earn community service hours by organizing book drives. Community book drives at workplaces, gyms, beauty salons, Rotary Clubs, places of worship and service organizations are also great for collecting books.

To host a book drive:

1. Choose a date and time that works for your community and set a target goal for the number of books you hope to collect.

2. Spread the word through social media, newsletters, email, flyers, posters, and word of mouth. Make sure to include information about collection bins, the dates of the drive, and that The Book Exchange is the recipient of the books.

3. Review the donation guidelines here: Books We Want. Please note that we only accept books for kids and teens in new or like-new condition.

4. Provide large, sturdy, and well-marked collection bins in your community.

5. Set a goal for how many books you want to collect!  Provide progress updates and encourage donations throughout the drive.

6. Drop off the donations at The Book Exchange on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12-3pm or schedule a time with one of our volunteers.

7. Thank your donors! Remind them that their book donations help child literacy in our community and encourage a love of reading.
