We welcome donations of gently used or new current books to provide to local children during field trips to our facility. Please review our guidelines below before donating to ensure your books can be used.
Drop-Off Hours
- Saturdays: Noon–3pm (open hours)
- Wednesday afternoons: Ring the doorbell. If volunteers are available, they’ll accept your donation. If no one answers, you may leave books that meet our requirements on the outside shelves.
Before You Donate
- Large donations (more than 3 boxes): Please email us at donatebooks@bookexchangemarin.org to schedule a time. This ensures we have enough volunteers to process your books.
- Transporting books: Please be prepared to bring your books into our facility. We have carts available, but as an all-volunteer organization, we cannot unload or transport boxes for you.
- Tax deduction: Your donation is tax deductible.
- Inspection upon arrival: A volunteer will check that your books meet the criteria below and are in good to excellent condition. This ensures we can make the best use of your generous donation.
What We Accept
We are always happy to receive:
- Pre-K through Grade 8 fiction in excellent condition – board books, picture books, storybooks, beginning/easy readers, chapter books, and early teen novels
- Pre-K through Grade 8 non-fiction – must be relevant and current
- Test prep books – SAT, medical, law school, etc.
What We Cannot Accept
- Teacher resources, textbooks, workbooks, or binders (with or without learning materials)
- Discarded library books or classroom books
- Outdated books
- Books in poor condition (mildewed, dirty, wet, ripped, bent, yellowed pages, written in, or missing covers/pages)
PLEASE NOTE: When you arrive, someone will check to be sure that your books and materials meet the criteria listed above and are in good to excellent condition. This is to ensure that we can make good use of your generous donation.
